Looking for a dark, cozy, and dare I say… grungy workplace? Sawada Coffee, located in the West Loop of Chicago, is your spot.
The mysterious, almost too discrete doorway into the cafe is covered with band stickers and graffiti. Once you enter however, you find yourself in a spacious, high ceilinged room that hosts a barista bar as well as a BBQ lunch spot near the back.
This industrial space features vintage pinball machines, a punching bag, and a hand-painted espresso machine.
Little did I know I was stumbling into the home of world renowned barista and latte art expert Hiroshi Sawada, but boy was I thrilled. Pictured above is an almond milk latte although it definitely appears to be a much fancier cup of joe.
If you are in the West Loop area and have time, this spot is a must. There’s also a location in NY!
I opted for a simple drink but Sawada is famous for their matcha-based drinks, including military lattes, cortados, cappuccinos, and boozy steamers.
P.S. They carry Doughnut Vault doughnuts!
